SMART Boards in the Classroom

Ten Ways to Get Smart with a SMARTboard

This article brings up 10 things you can do with a Smart Board in the classroom. These things range from games to note-taking to interactive worksheets. I think they key to the Smart Board is that it is interactive.

Power point has been around for years and it's one thing to have a power point presentation and watch slide after slide go by, but an entirely different thing to have an interactive activity. Most of the ideas presented in this article are interactive: getting the students out of their chairs to come up and learn through hands-on activities with the Smart Board.

Another benefit of the Smart Board is the opportunity to have integrated lessons. The author suggests an "All About Me" activity that allows students to tell some things about themselves. I thought this was a great way to allow students to present to other students using their verbal skills. They could also include artwork they have created showing their artistic abilities, they could include a poem they have written, pictures they have taken or any other endless possibilities.

Smart Boards impact the classroom by making learning fun and also helping the information to stick better by it being interactive. Students will be more excited to do an activity with a Smart Board than if they were to get out a worksheet to do individually. Smart Boards impact every aspect of learning from interpersonal to kinesthetic to visual.
